William L. McDonald Jr. 87, of Pocasset, and a former longtime Franklin resident, died suddenly Sunday January 23, 2011 at Falmouth Hospital. He was the husband of Marilyn L. (Keefe) McDonald for 69 years.
Born in Franklin May 12, 1923 a son of the late William L. Sr. and Grace (O'Connell) McDonald, he was raised and educated in Franklin, and was a Franklin High School graduate class of 1941.
Mr. McDonald was a retired machinist for the Foxboro Company, where he worked for more than 30 years.
During World War II he served in the United States Marine Corps. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and served in the South Pacific Theater in 1945. He was honorably discharged in November 1945.
He loved time spent with his family, gardening, Cape Cod, and the Patriots & Red Sox. He was a former member of St. Mary's Church and the Franklin VFW.
Surviving in addition to his wife are 3 sons; Stephen J. and his wife Robin McDonald of Franklin, Timothy W. McDonald Sr. of Franklin, Daniel T. of Wareham, 3 daughters; Patricia A. Ciavattone of Walpole, Susan K. Morrison and her husband David of Hebron, Connecticut, and Amy J. Campbell and her husband William of Mashpee, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late James McDonald, Agnes Romaine & Regina Sweed. He was the grandfather of the late Christian McDonald of Franklin who died in 2002.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday January 28th, at 1:00PM in the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, www.franklinfuneral.com. Interment with military honors will take place at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery, Franklin.
Calling hours are Friday from 11AM-1PM prior to the service.
