Romaine K. Abraham, 90, of Franklin, MA moved on to another form of existence on April 28th, at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Northborough, MA, as comfortably as possible. She was visited by family multiple times a week, and seemed to be at ease with the other residents she got to know over the last year.
She went to Bates College for her nursing degree, and years later went to Boston University for graduate studies. She spent most of her nursing career at Framingham Union Hospital, including as an instructor. Even after she retired from Framingham union, she taught at some local community colleges. She was an avid reader, taking full advantage of her local library, as well as second hand book stores. She loved collies, and adopted several after her husband passed. She provided hospice for her sister in her final days, and managed her sister’s husband’s final years. She cherished her husband of 28 years, in their home in Franklin.
For most of her life she was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Myrtle Chapter No 33, in Holliston and held multiple offices at the local, state, and national level.
A beloved aunt and step mother, throughout her life she helped others through her nursing work, charity work, and family focus, playing a special part in the life of her sister’s children. When she went to Busch Gardens with her sister’s daughter, after they both rode the Loch Ness Monster ride with 2 loop-de-loops, she suggested they both go again, knowing that is what her niece wanted. She eventually ended up getting ownership of the family cottage in Alton Bay, NH, and was the primary caretaker, enjoying family holiday weekends there every year. Other memories include her jelly bean trails to easter candy jackpots every year, and baby sitting her grand nieces. Later in life she enjoyed taking cruises with her husband, and friends.
She is survived by her nephew Perley Mears Jr, niece Kimberley Anne Carter and her husband Thomas Carter, stepdaughter Maryellen Abraham, stepdaughter Cindy Basterache, niece Alicia Kolesnikoff , niece Karla Jackman . She was preceded in passing by her husband Charles M. Abraham Sr., brother Andrew J. Kolesnikoff Jr., sister Alice W. Mears, brother-in-law Perley Mears Sr, nephew Andrew A. Mears, mother Bessie Kolesnikoff, father Andrew Kolesnikoff Sr, and her step son Charles M. Abraham Jr.
There will be a service on Friday May 8th at 7:30pm at Mt Hollis Lodge, 657 Washington St, Holliston, MA 01746.
The Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. is honored to assist the Abraham family.
