Richard G. Patykewich, 80, of Franklin passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026 at UMASS Medical Center following a brief illness. Before making his home in Franklin for the past 17 years, he was a longtime Portsmouth RI resident. Richard was born on August 16, 1946 in Newport, RI. He was the only son of the late Richard J. Patykewich and Helen Fitzgerald Patykewich.

Richard was a graduate of De La Salle Academy in Newport and attended the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico, where he earned his degree in History. He began his career with the former Industrial National Bank and spent many years working in automotive finance before retiring.

In retirement, Richard became a familiar face in Franklin, spending many mornings as the “morning guy” at Tedeschi’s, where he greeted friends and neighbors. He loved connecting with people and was always ready with a smile and excited to talk about any topic.

Richard was the loving father of his daughter, Karen, and her husband, John, of Franklin, MA, and his son, David, of Los Angeles, CA.

He was a die-hard Red Sox, UConn and Eastern CT State fan and had a lifelong love of the ocean and the tall ships. His greatest joy in life, however, was supporting his two grandsons, Christopher and Jake, of Franklin, MA. “Grampa Rick” was there for every event and every game—baseball, football, cross country, band, Boy Scouts, and everything in between. He was their biggest fan and took immense pride in watching them grow, cheering them on every step of the way. His later years were devoted to his grandsons and to sharing in every important moment life brought them. The memories he created with them, and the love and encouragement he gave them, will remain with them always.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 9:00–10:00 a.m. at the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage Street, Franklin, MA.

A funeral service will follow at 10AM.
