Mary Jane Coughlin Martello

Born September 1,1939 to adoring parents Fredrick A. Coughlin & Sadie (Stewart) Coughlin, a lifelong Franklinite Mary Jane resided in a few of Franklin's most visited homes. Starting life at 270/280 King St. until age 6 1/2 and her mother's untimely death, finishing first grade throughout that summer on Peck St in the home & loving care of her Aunt Margaret. Next school season Mary Jane with sister Barbara moved to "Hayward Manor" bought at auction by the gentlemen of the Coughlin Family & Loyal Order of Moose an American organization funding housing & education for orphan children, anonymously donating it to Catholic archdiocese of Boston, becoming "Home of the Blessed Child " just as Mary Jane's great grandfather John E. Sullivan did after 1857 moving the old town meeting house across the way and Saint Mary's church was formed.

Her FHS years were lived out at 35 East St home of her grandparents Annabel & Bill Stewart once Franklin's first carriage house wheelwright & cart painting business. After finishing FHS class of 1957 Janie earned a degree in dressmaking at the Boston school of modeling & fashion design 1959.

On May 20th 1960 she married John A. Martello Jr., with whom she raised their four children at 58 Washington until moving her family to the homestead at Sullivan's Corner aka Nathan Metcalf homestead where her young family thrived on vegetables gardens, eggs & famous grass raised meats.

Many meals were cooked in beehive ovens or atop coals in cast-iron pots in her enormous fireplace at 553. Mary Jane was cook/ owner / operator of Cider Mill Tavern Inc, bus driver for TCRVTHS, night aide Serenity Hill Wrentham , phone operator at Bell, machine demonstrator & sewing instructor for Singer Sewing Co in Woonsocket as well as long time 4~H leader. Her most successful & rewarding job was grandmother & full time babysitter for her daughter's children. Mary Jane's final years were lived out in peace & happiness with her loving family on King Street just like it started some 86 1/2 years ago.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband in 2003, her sons John E., Anthony F. and James A. Martello, and her sister Barbara Ann Dever.

Mary Jane leaves behind her daughter Maureen, son in-law & close friend Thomas Sullivan Sr., their children Thomas, William, Paige & Jack Sullivan whom she lived & enjoyed their love daily.
