Lucia Buchanio

Lucia ("Lu") Buchanio, 85, of Franklin, Massachusetts, passed away on June 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 31, 1940, in Milford, Massachusetts, to Matthew and Antoinette Deloia, she was one of nine children, and lived a life defined by love, warmth, and an unwavering devotion to her family.

For 58 cherished years, Lucia shared her life with the love of her life, Donald Anthony Buchanio, whom she adored and often called her best friend. When Donnie passed in 2021, a piece of her heart went with him; and yet she continued to pour what remained into the family they had built together at their beloved home on Union Street in Franklin, where decades of memories were made and love was always in the air.

Lucia was, at her core, a homemaker in the truest and most beautiful sense. Her life's mission was simple and profound: to make sure everyone who walked through her door felt loved, fed, and at home. Her home on Union Street was not just a house — it was a gathering place, a sanctuary, a place that always had room for one more at the table. Everything she did, she did for her family, and she leaves behind a legacy not of grand gestures, but of daily devotion: of hugs and home-cooked meals, of laughter and love, of always showing up.

Lucia had a spirit that was impossible to miss. Sharp, candid, and wonderfully outspoken, she never held back, and her family wouldn't have had it any other way. She had something to say about everything, and her laugh, when it came, filled the room.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid reader, Lucia's bookshelf overflowed for years. She was always eagerly anticipating the next novel from her favorite author, Diana Palmer, and loved a trip to Barnes & Noble to find it. She loved cozying up with a good Hallmark movie or watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Some of her family's most treasured memories are of her dancing around the kitchen with a bandana in her hair and 70s soft rock playing, of gathered evenings in the living room with a fire crackling in the fireplace, or afternoons on the front porch, talking and listening to the birds sing. And then there were the Sunday trips down the Cape to Sandwich, soaking in the sun and the love of her family.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald Anthony Buchanio, and her parents, Matthew and Antoinette Deloia. She is survived by her four children: Donna Buchanio, Donald Anthony (Tony) Buchanio Jr., Kristen Buchanio, and Nick Buchanio (Alexis Buchanio); her five grandchildren: Kalen Buchanio (Andrew Celani), Alexandra Healey-Shaw (Britney Shaw), Samantha Trufant (Andrew Trufant), Jackson Buchanio, and Jocelyn Buchanio; and her two great-grandchildren: Chase Trufant and Charleigh Trufant. She is also survived by her extended family and friends.

Lucia Buchanio did not need the world to remember her name. She needed her family to feel loved, and in that, she succeeded beyond measure. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of all who knew her.
