Lois Virginia (Denley) Hedtler, a long time resident of Franklin, MA died peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. She was 84 years old. Born Lois V. Denley in Newton, MA, to Fletcher and Cora Denley, she was the sister of the late Norma Bruce and the wife of Richard (Dick) Hedtler. After marrying in 1952, she and Dick spent their early years together in Kansas, moving to Franklin in 1958 where they raised their children.
Lois was loving mother to five children: Richard and his wife Denise, Steven and his wife Cathy, Sharon Darling and her husband Dave, Diane Meyer, and David and his wife Rebecca. She was the aunt of two nieces, Kim and Karen, and a nephew Stephen. She leaves behind many loving grandchildren and extended family members: Laurie and John O'Brien, Jennifer and Justin Payton, Michael, Shannon, Jason and Colleen, Jamie and Andrew Ward, Scott and Ashley, Brian Darling, Daniel Darling, Tanya Hedtler and Patrick Whalen, and Sara Hedtler and Alex Arthur. She was also blessed with seventeen great-grandchildren.
Lois loved doing crossword puzzles, playing with her dogs, feeding the wildlife in her yard and spending time with her family. She was known as Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found joy spending much of her time attending their activities such as sports, plays and grandparent days at school. Lois and Dick also loved to take day trips to western MA, with Yankee Candle of South Deerfield being a particular favorite.
Her family would like to give special thanks to Lois' granddaughter, Jennifer, who provided exceptional, loving support to Lois in her final days. They would also like to thank the caring support provided by the teams at Ascend Hospice, the Salmon VNA and the High Risk Mobile Team of Milford Regional Health System.
Per Lois' request, a private family memorial will be held. Donations in her memory may be made to the MSPCA 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA. 02130. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage Street Franklin.
