John L. Takessian, Jr., 78, passed away on August 17, 2026, after a decades long battle with a rare neurodegenerative disorder. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Rita P. (Dube) Takessian, his high school sweetheart. They weremarried December 10, 1966, in St. Mary’s Church, Franklin, MA. Born October 18, 1947, he was the son of the late John L. and Claire C. (Fifield) Takessian. John grew up in Franklin, MA and is a graduate of Franklin High School, moving to Blackstone, MA in 1972.
John worked for many years as an auto mechanic, truck driver and school bus mechanic and driver, retiring in May 2000, due to disability. He loved to travel, especially cruising and Disney World. He enjoyed family camping for many years, old movies, tinkering with cars, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with family, friends, and pets. His grandchildren called him ‘Grampy’, also the “Peppermint Patty Fairy” because he would hand out York Peppermint Patties or leave a bag of them on their doorstep.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his son, Joseph Takessian (Brenda) of Uxbridge, MA, daughters, Pauline Sweeney (Derrick) of Putnam, CT, Debra Monte (Kevin) of Milton, NH and Sheri Boisseau (John) of Blackstone, MA. Grandchildren Ben Takessian, Grace Takessian, Stephen Coffey (fiancé Kaitlyn Jencks), Justin Coffuire (Amanda), Joshua Monte (Miranda), Alex Monte, Ethan Monte, Monique Boisseau, Corinne Boisseau-Sa (Luiz) and Angeline Boisseau, great-grandsons Brayden Coffey, Owen Coffey and Leo Monte, step- grandson Christopher Videtto, sister Eileen Green (Dana) of Bucksport, ME, and four nieces.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his two brothers, Peter H. and Roger C. Takessian, and granddaughter-in-law, Katrina Coffey. He was also predeceased by his beloved canine companions Taffy and Trixie.
Services will be private.
