FRANKLIN—John P. Notaro Sr. 83, of Franklin, and a former resident of Madison, Ct., died Wednesday August 5th, at the Milford Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Anita C. (DeStasio) Notaro.
Born in the Bronx, NY on August 8, 1925 a son of the late Anthony F. and Lucia (DiOrio) Notaro, he had been a resident of Franklin for the past nine years.
He was educated in New York and was a graduate of Long Island University where he received a bachelor's degree in business, also received his teaching degree from Pace University.
Mr. Notaro served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed aboard the USS Samuel Chase as a medic and participated in the invasion of Normandy. He was awarded numerous medals and was discharged in December of 1945.
Upon returning home, he began working for IBM as a Systems Analyst and remained there for over 25 years until retirement. After retirement he worked part time as a substitute teacher in the public schools systems of Franklin and Bellingham.
A devoted husband, father,and grandfather he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and also enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing pool.
He was a member of the Madison, Ct. VFW, the Franklin Senior Citizens and the USS Samuel Chase APA-26 Association.
In addition to his wife of 64 years he is survived by two daughters Therese J. Notaro of Franklin and Judy A. Niedzwecki of Clinton, a brother Peter F. Notaro of Florida. Also surviving are his grandchildren Maria, John and Anthony Notaro and Sarah Niedzwecki.
He was the father of the late John P. Notaro Jr. who died in 2002.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass on Monday August 10th at St. Mary's Church 1 Church Sq. Franklin at 11AM.
Interment is private.
