Obituary

O'CONNOR, Dr Harrison Age 86 Born in Bay Shore, New York, died December 28, 2010, at Milford Hospital, of complications from pneumonia.The third of four sons of Congressman John Joseph O'Connor (D-NY), Harrison O'Connor graduated Lincoln School, an experimental school run by Columbia University' Teachers College, at age seventeen. He then attended Dartmouth College, which he completed in three years, and graduated Harvard Medical School in only three years as well. During his residency at Boston Children's Hospital, he contracted polio, and was in an iron lung for several months. Upon recovery, he completed his training as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon and later as a psychiatrist. He practiced medicine in both fields in Massachusetts for more than fifty years. He was predeceased by his brothers John, an attorney, and Daniel, a teacher & musician. Dr. O'Connor is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Dwyer) O'Connor of Franklin, Mass; his twin brother Dr. Robert O'Connor; his step-children, Donna Wick, Dwyer Vessey, Lynne Glode, Jeffrey Leahy, Janet Phillips; and ten step-grandchildren.
