Glen F. Haagensen

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Glen F. Haagensen, 98, on September 5th, 2026.

Glen was born in Oak Park, Illinois and spent time during his first years with family in Denmark. Danish was his first language. Glen made friends and raised his family in many locations over the years including Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia before settling in Franklin, MA.

Glen studied Engineering at University of Michigan and University of Kentucky. He also played football and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. His college career was interrupted by his enlistment in the Army supporting the Korean War. Glen ultimately achieved his Bachelors degree from Old Dominion University. He also trained as a Tenor at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore under Madame Alice Gwerstl Duschak. Glen sang with the Boston Symphany Chorus for several summers at Tanglewood.

In 1952, Glen married the late Nahja (Dunville) Haagensen, who passed in 2008. Together they welcomed 6 children into the world. Kathryn D. Haagensen, Karen P. Haagensen (passed in 1967), Tove M. Esser, Anna B. Haagensen, Carrie E. Haagensen and Ebba Jo Haagensen. He was also blessed with 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Glen’s career was primarily oriented to sales within the plumbing/HVAC sector. In the days when clients were met face to face, Glen became a master of main streets and backroads in the southern New England area. If you met Glen, he would (almost always) ask you where you were from, then tell you exactly what routes were necessary in getting there. He loved maps, music, sports, and setting out on an adventure that typically started with “let’s go for a ride”. He and Nahja always had plenty of stories about the places they found and the things they did while they were there. Their adventures also included the regular participation in several annual music festivals and following favorite bands around the region. Glen also had an amazing ability to build/repair almost anything, and he did. The depths of his knowledge on any subject was unrivaled. His memory will always live on in the sharing of knowledge with family and the steady love that shaped our lives.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his graveside funeral service at the Union Street Cemetery in Franklin on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
