WESTBOROUGH—Eileen Rose (Shields) Peabody 65, of Westborough, and a former longtime Franklin resident, passed away Wednesday February 4, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her family, following a long battle with cancer. She was the wife of Patrick J. "Joe" Peabody her elementary school friend and the love of her life, for over 45 years.
Born in Brighton, November 7, 1943 a daughter of the late John and Mary (O'Dowd) Shields, she was raised and educated in Roslindale, and is a 1962 graduate of Roslindale High School. She lived in Franklin for over 36 years until moving to Westborough in 2003.
She lived an inspired life, sweetened by the many friends and family she loved with a passion. All who knew her, even briefly, felt embraced and blessed by her radiance and humor, generosity, sparkling beauty, and her love of life. Her strength never waned even after her long battle with cancer.
Eileen is the cherished mother to Robin Bonina and her husband Richard of Marlboro, and Patrick (PJ) Peabody and his wife Jannell of Mendon. Loving grandmother of Natasha & Avery Bonina and Tyler & Kayla Peabody.
She also leaves 3 sisters Mara Downie, and Nora Spillane and her husband Christopher of Franklin, Jeanette A. Vernon and her husband Richard of Upton, 2 brothers John E. Shields and his wife JoAnne of Norwood, and Richard J. Shields of Walpole and many adoring in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She is the sister of the late James and Michael Shields.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Thursday Feb. 12, at 10:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home (www.franklinfuneral.com) with a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church Franklin at 11AM.
Interment will be private.
Calling hours are Wednesday February 11, from 4-8PM.
