Christie Goeggel Lamping passed away peacefully in her home at Magnolia Heights Gracious Retirement Living in Franklin, Mass. on April 22, 2026. She was born in Miami, Fla., on October 28, 1944, daughter to Helen and Harry Goeggel, late of Philadelphia, PA, and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. She grew up in St. Thomas, where she showed a passion for medicine at an early age. Her mother recalled she knew there was no turning back when 12-year-old Christie returned elated after witnessing an autopsy. Christie appreciated the childhood she enjoyed in St. Thomas and the scholarship she received there to help send her to medical school.
For more than 50 years Christie was a medical doctor specializing in internal medicine, hematology and oncology. She graduated from Vassar College in 1966 and Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in 1970 and completed her residency training at St. Lukes Hospital in New York. Her early career years were spent at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, where she performed the first bone marrow transplant in the Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey tri-state area. She was passionate in treating the whole patient, always offering extra care and support to help her patients cope with the difficulties that cancer diagnoses entail.
During her years in Philadelphia, she met and married her husband, Richard Thomas Lamping, Sr. With her marriage, she took on the role of stepmother to her husband’s teenage children. She always endeavored to provide loving support to her family while balancing the demands of a challenging career. Christie and Richard (Dick) Lamping enjoyed 27 years together. Their life adventures took them from Philadelphia to the Virgin Islands to Illinois and ultimately Baltimore, Maryland, where Christie enjoyed many years working as Internal Medicine Specialist at Bon Secours Hospital. Upon her husband’s passing, Christie chose to scale back her work and moved to Hawaii to live with her brother’s family—Geoffrey, Sharon and Christopher Goeggel. She worked as a general internist in Pearl Harbor, HI, until her retirement.
Christie returned stateside for her final years to be near her stepdaughters, who are ever grateful for the love and care she provided teens in need of a gentle touch. Christie leaves behind her nephew Christopher Goeggel and sister-in-law Sharon Goeggel; stepchildren Laura Lamping Stinnett, Elizabeth Lamping, Susan Lamping Noe, Jennifer Truman, and Richard Thomas Lamping, Jr.; grandchildren Seamus Minogue, Eilis Christie Minogue-Rose, Liam Minogue, Laura Patricia (née Noe) Daly, Betty Ann Noe, Samantha Jarman, Remy Lamping, and Tucker Lamping; and great-grandchildren Ryley Angela Rose, Zara Neveen Minogue, Ari Taylor Jarman, Hosea Bear Lamping and Owen Patrick Daly.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Planned Parenthood in her honor.
The Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. is honored to assist the Lamping family.
